Focused relationship will allow both infrastructure development and research to gain better understanding of HIV drug resistance and patient outcomes
Virco BVBA is pleased to announce the signing of their first collaboration agreement with KompetenzNetz HIV/AIDS, a German research network for HIV/AIDS representing a cohort of over 8,000 HIV patients involving some 25 treatment centers in Germany,.
Within this collaboration the KompetenzNetz HIV/AIDS and Virco will exchange clinical outcome data and resistance information to further understand treatment response to HIV drugs, enabling the research and development by Virco of tools to assist HIV physicians in their treatment decisions. Virco will support KompentenzNetz HIV/AIDS to create and maintain an HIV genotypic sequence database and provide access to the virco®TYPE HIV-1 resistance interpretation product to German physicians participating in the KompetenzNetz HIV/AIDS.
“With the increasing complexity of HIV therapy, it is important to understand the implications of treatment failure on patient outcomes and use the current clinical experience to learn how to better treat patients in the future. Only large scale collaborations can provide the power to build more accurate interpretation tools needed to significantly improve patient care”, stated Dr Jorge Villacian, Global Director for Medical Affairs and Clinical Outcomes, Virco BVBA.
“This collaboration is a great example of public/private partnerships to add further diversity in our understanding, insights, and innovation in HIV therapy”, said Werner Verbiest, General Manager Worldwide of Virco BVBA; and he added, “we welcome the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in Germany and we are convinced this cross-fertilization of expertise and teams will benefit HIV patients”.
