Surveillance & Monitoring

3. Resistance Surveillance and Monitoring in Resource Limited Settings

As AntiRetroViral (ARV) treatment becomes more available in resource limited settings, increasing efforts are being devoted to surveillance of primary resistance among untreated patients and monitoring of secondary resistance following initial drug treatment.

Virco collaborates with regional networks and academic centers in providing quantitative genotypic analysis via vircoTYPE HIV-1 and phenotypic analyses to help measure and interpret these resistance trends.
These collaborations help to support surveillance and monitoring infrastructure in the member countries and data from these collaborations assist in improving our understanding in non-B HIV-1 subtypes.

  • Sub-Saharan Africa: ART-A (Affordable Resistance Test for Africa) and PASER initiatives
  • Mali and Benin: (Hôpital national du Point-G, Bamako, Mali, 4CÉSAC, Bamako, Mali  and University of Montreal)
  • Asia: Treat ASIA and TASER initiatives)
  • Mexico: (Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán)

Virco actively encourages and solicits collaborations in these and other areas.  If your institution would like to work together with Virco, please contact us via phone (Tel: +32-15-461-100) ,  email (info@its.jnj.com) or contact your local Virco representative
