Passive Information Collection

As you navigate through this site, certain anonymous information can be passively collected (that is, gathered without your actively providing the information) using various technologies, such as cookies, Internet tags or web beacons, and navigational data collection (log files, server logs, clickstream). Your Internet browser automatically transmits to this site some of this anonymous information, such as the URL of the Web site you just came from and the Internet Protocol (IP) address and the browser version your computer is currently using. This site may also collect anonymous information from your computer through cookies and Internet tags or web beacons. You may set your browser to notify you when a cookie is sent or to refuse cookies altogether, but certain features of this site might not work without cookies.

Use and Disclosure of Information

Except as otherwise stated, we may use information collected via this site to improve the content of our site, to customize the site to your preferences, to communicate information to you (if you have requested it), for our marketing and research purposes, and for any other purpose specified. Samples you send for analysis

Your physician will send your plasma samples as well as the necessary identifiers to Virco for resistance testing. Prior to doing so, your physician should ask you whether you give your agreement that we use the left-overs of your plasma sample for further research purposes. If you agree, we will decode the left-overs of the sample so that researchers cannot, without more than reasonable efforts, identify you. If your sample has been sent to us for routine resistance testing then you will have a period of 6 weeks from Virco's receipt of the sample to change your mind with regards to giving your approval for potential research on the left-overs of your sample. If your sample has been sent to us as part of a larger batch of samples the 6 week period may be longer. The research work will be done with a view to generate more knowledge about viral diseases and the phenomenon of resistance, to help optimize or develop laboratory procedures or assays in order to be able to provide improved care for patients in the future. More specifically, the research may address areas of pharmacokinetics, metabolites, plasma protein binding, protein analysis, biochemistry and characterization of drug resistance. The research will not involve investigations of your personal genetic profile nor will it have as goal the identification of genetically detectable illnesses. All data generated in light of this research will be treated confidentially and will be decoded such that the link to your identity is protected.
